Winter camping brings an entirely new element to the activity of camping. Before you set off into the woods, make sure that you have a pack prepared with food like energy bars or trail mix to keep you moving, plenty of water, dry, protected matches, a space blanket to keep you warm and to signal for help during the day, an LED flashlight or LED lantern for use at night, a compass, and the best survival knife that you can find or afford.
There are a wide variety of campsites all over the country in every state and area. Don't pack soft fruits that bruise or spoil easily. For these pursuits, you will need a survival knife or a folding pocket knife.
On the days of really terrible weather, we would try to put up with it, but sometimes went home. Be careful about not eating too much salty foods when doing heavy hiking in high heat or desert areas though, because you can become dehydrated more quickly. If you plan to be deep in the wilderness, get some decent clothing for that purpose.
Keep your back pack as light as possible and enjoy your trip. Whether camping as a family or having the kids go to a summer camp, it s a great way to learn about nature and the outdoors.
